Waterloo International Transformer Replacement

Antagrade’s recent Waterloo project was high profile, time-critical and delivered to schedule and budget – From contract award to energisation, six weeks was all it took to design, install, test and commission a new 33/11kV transformer supplying Waterloo International Station. Working closely with Network Rail this project included analysis, design and development of the protection systems, design of equipment interfacing, modifications to High Voltage switchgear, civil works and the installation of new cabling and wiring necessary to connect and commission the new transformer.

Replacement of the old unit weighing some 27 Tonnes in an inaccessible siding originally used to load coffins onto Victorian funeral trains took place in drizzly conditions during a possession booked nearly 2 years in advance and required a complicated sequence of road and rail crane manoeuvres, involving traffic diversions, police abnormal load authorization and platform closures within the station.
